Issue #32 July 1, 2008 Editor: Laura J. Pugh |
|
To see if you were paying attention to Issue 30’s main article on CPR+’s data management features, I thought I’d start with a pop quiz. No reading ahead . . . just answer the following five true / false questions to see how well you know CPR+ and how it tracks changes to your data. True or False:
Quiz over. So how did you do? I made it easy on you - if you answered TRUE to each statement, you get an “A”. CPR+ does track the changes made to virtually every field in the system. Need to know who changed the price in a Special Price Matrix or the cost of an Inventory Item? You can. Want to know who entered a physician record? No problem. Need to go smack someone upside the head for entering the wrong Policy ID Number on your new IVIG patient? We got ya covered. Right Click, History
Audit Reports What if you don’t know what field to check, but you’d like to see which and how many patient records an employee has touched today? We added the Audit Reports feature as a way to help you comply with HIPAA – enabling you to see who has accessed Mrs. Peterson’s PHI. It works great for that, but it’s also a good way to see if Bob, your new CSR, has really been working or just watching YouTube™ videos all day.
Coming soon – even more management reports in the Report Library Service based on the information the system tracks when fields are changed or accessed. “Lock it Down” Accuracy in reporting and data integrity is all about controlling what data goes into the system. How many different Therapy Types do you have on your Revenue by Therapy Type report? If you’re too embarrassed to answer, you need to know about the feature that lets you set fields to “read-only”, requiring your staff to use the field’s associated popup. You can also select fields to be designated as "read-only" from your System Setup screen. Go to Utilities (8) > System Setup (2) > Options tab and click on the Set Read-Only Status On Fields (F5) button. CPR+ will display a list of available fields to set as "read-only". Use the Spacebar to tag or untag fields. This is a great way to eliminate the Data Cleanup Utility If you have old, historical data that needs to be “scrubbed”, don’t forget about the CPR+ Data Cleanup Utility. Found under option “B” on your Utilities Menu, this utility allows you to quickly and easily "search and replace" historical data in your system, replacing out-of-date, duplicate or inaccurate data with up-to-date "clean" data. You can scrub your Adjustment Types, Biller/Collector Names, Catheter Access Descriptions, Payor Types, Referral Sources, Revenue Codes, Sales Reps and Therapy Types. It’s quick and easy and it will make a big difference in your reporting power. In Conclusion . . . So I hope all of you got an “A” on your quiz. If not, spend a little time getting to know these powerful features. After all, your data really is the life blood of your business – protect it, clean it up and put some controls in place to make sure it stays that way.
The long anticipated D.H.S. softball game, which was cancelled due to rain earlier in the month, was finally held at a Columbus park on Tuesday, June 24. Employees were divided by department: Sales and Support (S&S) players were led by Co-owner Jeff Johnston while Co-owner Stuart Crane led the staff from Admin, Training, and Product Development (ATP). The game was called by Umpire Ted McGraner while I meticulously kept score. The official videographer was Phil Raynes and Laura Pugh was in charge of still photography.
The weather was perfect - just hot enough to make a player appreciate a bottle of ice cold water after a tough inning. At the bottom of the 2nd, the S&S team seemed to have an easy victory in their grasp with a score of zero to four. The ATP team gained momentum in the third inning, first with a run scored by barefoot Stacy VanBrimmer, followed by another run scored by co-owner Stuart Crane. At the top of the fourth, the score was two to four. Richard van der Lek led off with a single, then Shelly James’s daughter Kirsti had a single. David Szabo pitched a walk to Lisa Kibe, then Longballer and Product Development Director Darren Young hit a two-run double to tie the game. In the bottom of the fourth, the S&S team’s Nicholas Tieu got on base with a double and John Mathis brought him home with a single, bringing the score to four - five. In the fifth, Stuart led off with a single, followed by Steve Scholl, who hit a home run to add two more points to ATP’s score. Next, Kelly Jackson hit a grounder to third but made it a double after an overthrow to first base.
S&S had two ringers on their team (Dustin Cook and Ryan Young) making the ATP team the projected underdog. The sixth inning was uneventful as neither team scored, but because no one was ready to call it a night, it was decided we would play one more inning. In the top of the seventh, Kelly led off with a single. Then Richard van der Lek had a nice hit, but Kelly was tagged out at 2nd. Kim Carlsen’s husband Eric hit a shot up the middle, forcing Richard to slide into second in shorts! Eric later scored off of a single by Darren Young.
Bottom of the seventh, Amy Bush led off with a single, followed by a single by David Szabo. Josh Duncan hit a single which scored Amy. Then S&S’s Nicholas Tieu hit another single, bringing David home. That left it with runners on first and third with two outs and a one run ball game. It was a classic ending, Sales & Support was one run away from tying the game when Co-owner Jeff Johnston came to bat. Stuart Crane threw the pitch and catcher Lisa Kibe caught an impossible-to-catch foul pop up to make the final out and end the game. It was all in good fun, and a rematch is already in the works! |

I hope everyone enjoys the Softball Game article. I’m sure I can speak for everyone on the staff here at D.H.S. when I give a huge THANK YOU to Amy Amburgey for not only organizing the game once, but twice (due to a rain out.) Amy used her organizational skills to order the T-shirts, reserve the park, provide maps/directions, plan the food and drinks and even with a broken wrist, she kept score the entire game. Home Run Amy!
