Over and over, customers tell us that improving efficiency without reducing the quality of patient care is critical to your business success. CPR+ software is continually being upgraded to help you achieve this important objective. At NHIA in March, Jeff and Stuart demonstrated the prototype for our new Order Verification module. They received lots of good feedback from customers and prospects alike. We incorporated those suggestions, and the module is now available for general release in CPR+ version 8.2a. The CPR+ Order Verification module will reduce human error in filling prescriptions and dispensing supplies to your patients, improve inventory accuracy and save money on voided fills and wasted supplies. To use the module, you need a barcode scanner or keyboard wedge scanner. You must set up the options to print a barcode on your pharmacy work orders, your delivery tickets, or both. You also must have barcodes loaded into your inventory. To begin, select Order Verification from the File drop-down menu. You will be prompted to log in and begin scanning. The user login prompt allows you to set up a workstation in the pharmacy or warehouse for the sole purpose of verifying orders. The program logs the user who verifies the order without requiring users to log in and out of CPR+.
After you log in, just scan the bar code on a pharmacy work order or a delivery ticket. When you scan a work order, the prescription information and the items for the work order will display on the order verification screen. Scan the bar codes on the items that will be used in the order. An item not on the list or an incorrect quantity will prompt you for an action – cancel the item, add the item to the work order, or substitute the item for another item on the work order. Any action taken is logged as an exception. When you’ve finished scanning, click Save, and you’re ready to scan the items for the next prescription.
Scanning a delivery ticket works the same way. Scan the printed delivery ticket, then scan the items you will deliver to the patient. Any changes you make to items on the delivery ticket will not only be tracked in the Exception Log, but will actually change the ticket, which can then be reprinted with the correct items. Both the Pharmacy Work Order and Delivery Ticket Options allow you to log comments when you have finished scanning.
To see what kind of errors are being stopped before they happen, you can run the Order Verification Exceptions. From the Main Menu, go to Reports (4) > Clinical Reports (1) > Order Verification Exceptions. Select the date range you want to see (every day!) and opt to see comments or not. Prescriptions and delivery tickets will be grouped together. All information about the exceptions, including the user who did the verification and the actions taken, are listed on the report. The Order Verification module is included with version 8.2a. You don’t need to purchase CPR+ Scan to use it; you just need a barcode scanner and the information entered in your inventory. We are pleased to announce that an update to the CPR+ v8.2a Beta is available for download. This release contains several Scan items and the 3rd quarter 2009 Medicare Fee Schedule update. Click here to view the entire enhancement log. Since its release on May 12, 2009, we have received a lot of positive feedback on v8.2a. During our follow-up calls to Beta Testing Participants, we learned that some date fields were not behaving as expected. We will continue to correct the date field behavior as these areas are identified and reported. When reporting any of these date-related issues, please be specific to what function is being performed, (i.e., running a report, creating delivery tickets, etc). If you would like to become an active Beta Testing Participant, please contact me, Lisa Kibe, or Stacy VanBrimmer directly. Here's a 'Top 5' Tip from Trainer, Richard van der Lek:Did you know that you could make a prescription template from the actual fill you are on without having to go to templates and type it all over again? I usually suggest that when you are dispensing a prescription, go all the way to the Compound Instructions tab and complete the instructions. When finished, go back to the Compounding Record tab and press <CTRL+F10>. This will prompt you to name the template. Now you don't have to start from scratch the next time you're filling a prescription. Thanks Richard!
