Are you collecting every rebate available to your business through the drug manufacturers' rebate system? Many of the rebates are straight-forward, based on simple percentages. Others require pharmacies to collect specific data related to the patients receiving a particular medication. Maybe you'd like to participate in these rebate programs, but don't believe you have the time or tools to manage the job. That's where CPR+ comes in - with User-Defined Fields and Custom Assessments. The User Defined Fields are custom fields that can be created for use from the Patient Menu window, Insurance Companies window, Drug Item Information window (or any Inventory Item Information window), Prescribers window, and more. You can have an unlimited amount of these custom fields. They can be created as: Yes/No, Essay, Short/Single Word, Date/Time, and Multiple Choice (single answer – with option buttons or pop-ups, or multiple answers – checkboxes). The fields are used to store any data that your organization chooses to track that is not standard in CPR+. You can also create customized assessments or questionnaires. You can create your own phone questionnaire, home safety study, or just about any topic your manager can think of to track! One example would be a study or questionnaire to track patients taking a specific drug. This could be utilized to collect the exact data required from the drug manufacturer to obtain their rebate. Custom Assessments are created in CPR+ using the same types of fields as the User Defined fields. From the Main Menu, select Databases (7) > Templates (6) > Assessments (E). There, you can build your own fields, organize them by category, and assign follow-up responsibility. Any assessment can be linked to a specific drug so that when the drug is ordered, CPR+ will auto-generate that assessment and it will even create a schedule entry for follow-ups. If you'd like to learn the details of assessment creation, be sure to attend the Developing Customized Assessments for Clinical Documentation class that I'll be teaching at the 6th Annual CPR+ User Conference in Albuquerque, NM next month. This session will cover how to design, edit and use a Custom Assessment to fit your company’s needs.
Very Big Payor has not sent you any money for sixty days. How much of a problem is this? It may be a Very Big Problem if you have a lot of patients with this payor, or just a few very expensive ones. But if your costs for the patients are relatively low, maybe you can look at this as just the way this very big payor does things and spend your energy solving more pressing problems. The CPR+ Cost Analysis Report will show you exactly how serious this problem is. From the Reports Menu, select Billing (4) > Cost Analysis (6) > Cost Analysis Report (1). On the Billing Options menu, you can select lots of detail or just a little. Select a single payor to see the costs associated with Very Big Payor. You can print just the total costs by item, patient summaries for items, or even all the delivery tickets related to the costs. Like all CPR+ Reports, this report can be exported to Excel, where you can analyze costs by many other dimensions, such as Therapy Type, Patient MD or even NDC. The printed report does some of the work of calculating item totals, so you’ll need to do some of that work in Excel yourself. Let the CPR+ Cost Analysis report help you keep your eye on the big picture of where your money is going.
