I’ve been a delivery driver for an HME company for about three years now. I love my job: I’m not stuck in an office and I get to talk to new people every day. Yesterday started out great - the weather's finally warm, I was driving my delivery truck with the windows down, thinking about the demo derby I was going to that night and jammin’ to Blake Shelton. All of a sudden, I hear the squeal of tires and then CRASH. Dang! Someone just ran into me. Looked like no one was hurt, but what a mess! The road was scattered with pieces of my truck and delivery boxes. Thank goodness my company just implemented CPR+ Smartphone and WebPortal and a new policy to place all delivery tickets inside the sealed shipping boxes for patient confidentiality reasons. Imagine the mess this could have been if I had to chase delivery tickets blowing around the intersection! It was just a fender bender, I was lucky. Time to get back on my way. Of course, I missed the end of my song, (grrrr) but with all the fuss, I forgot where I was going. I grabbed the first delivery box and my phone and logged into CPR+ Smartphone to pull up the patient’s information. I was able to get directions from my location to the patient’s home, view the Delivery Ticket, and verify exactly what I was supposed to be delivering to the patient. Finally, I arrived at the patient’s house and knocked on the door. All I could hear was the dog barking in the backyard. The neighbor came over to tell me that an ambulance took Ms. Stuart to the hospital last night. Since I have CPR+ Smartphone, I looked up her emergency contact, and called to get more information. The patient’s daughter told me that she had been released from the hospital, but would be staying with her for the next few weeks. I got back in my truck, logged a Progress Note about the hospital visit and the patient’s temporary location. Her daughter lived just a few miles away, so I selected the daughter’s address from the Contact Information and let CPR+ Smartphone direct me to the new delivery location. One down and a dozen more to go! I wanted to double-check the next patient's Progress Notes to make sure that I was aware of any updates. When I arrived, the patient, Mrs. Jeffries, said that she was moving next week and needed to get us her new address and phone number. This was great, because it gave me the opportunity to tell her about our new CPR+ Web Portal. She was excited to learn that she could make these types of changes herself from her own computer. I explained that all we would need to do is create an account for her, and then she could log in anytime to update her information. Mrs. Jeffries loved that idea. I got a kick out of showing her that I could create her account right there from my phone. I just logged into CPR+ Web Portal, looked up her name, and then simply clicked Create Account. While we talked, I verified all the serial numbers of each piece of equipment currently checked out to her. As I was preparing to leave, the home health nurse arrived for her weekly visit. Mrs. Jeffries told her nurse about CPR+ Web Portal. I don’t mind telling other healthcare providers that my company keeps me equipped with the latest and greatest. The nurse was impressed and asked if I could get to Mrs. Jeffries' most-recent lab values. I explained that, as this patient's ancillary provider, she could submit a request and obtain her own account, log in, and be able to view Mrs. Jeffries' latest lab results and other important information. With CPR+ WebPortal, I have the info in an instant. We have different types of accounts – for patients, physicians, ancillary providers – each with different levels of security privileges. With CPR+ WebPortal, we can create an account for a nurse, and set up the security privileges to view specific areas of a specific list of patients. The day ended up a lot better than it started. With CPR+ Smartphone and WebPortal, I was able to keep up with my “paperwork” before I left each delivery location. It meant I didn’t have to spend all that extra time back at the warehouse computer logging information. I managed to make all my deliveries and still make it to the demo derby before the mud began to fly.
